One teen is dead, and another is behind bars after an afternoon shooting in Forestdale.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday to a residence in the 700 block of Mohave Drive on a report of shots fired.

They arrived to find a 17-year-old male who had been shot. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim.

Jaymon Battle, 18, is charged with murder in the teen’s death. A motive has not been released but investigators said the two knew each other.

Battle was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:38 p.m. Saturday. He is being held without bond under Aniah’s Law.
