1 million super-popular Igloo coolers recalled after reports of finger amputations
More than one million popular coolers are being recalled due to concerns its handles could trap a user’s fingers leading to their amputation.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice on Igloo’s 90 qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers. The product’s tow handle “can pinch consumer’s fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” CPSC warned.
According to CPSC, Igloo has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries related to the coolers, including fingertip amputations, broken bones and cuts.
About 1.06 million of the coolers were sold in the U.S., and another 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico. The coolers were sold in multiple body and lid color combinations. You can see a complete list of cooler models here.before
All the recalled coolers were manufactured before January 2024 and owners can find the date of manufacture imprinted on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the manufacturing year inside the circle. They were sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dicks and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon, Igloocoolers.com and other websites from January 2019 to January 2025 for between $80 and $140.
People who own the cooler should stop using them and contact Igloo for a free handle replacement. You can see more on getting your handle here.
