1 killed in southwest Birmingham shooting

An investigation is underway after a man was shot to death Wednesday night in a southwest Birmingham neighborhood.

West Precinct officers were dispatched just after 9:30 p.m. to a report of a person shot in the 1400 block of Fulton Avenue S.W.

Police arrived to find the victim – an adult male – unresponsive inside a home. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the resident of the home told police he heard shots fired outside and went to investigate. When he opened his door, the victim fell into his home.

The resident then called 911.

Wade said it wasn’t immediately clear if the homeowner knew the victim.

No arrests have been made.

The victim, whose identity hasn’t been released, is the city’s 24th homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 37 homicides including the 24 in Birmingham.
