Authorities are on the scene of a fatal crash on U.S. 31 in Homewood.

The wreck happened about 8 a.m. Tuesday near the YMCA.

Authorities said the male driver was traveling down the hill past Brookwood Medical Center when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

That location is near the on/off ramp from Shades Creek Parkway to U.S. 31 northbound.

The victim has been pronounced dead on the scene.

The ramp is temporarily closed while first responders continue to investigate.
