A fiery crash in Jefferson County Saturday left one person dead.

Sheriff’s deputies responded just before 10 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle wreck on Shady Grove Road at the Bluff Ridge Bridge.

Lt. Joni Money said an SUV apparently struck the side of the bridge and then left the road. The SUV was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.

The Shady Grove Fire Department extinguished the blaze. The driver was found dead inside the vehicle.

The traffic fatality victim has not yet been identified.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
