A midday crash at a western Jefferson County intersection left one man dead.

The crash involved a Publix 18-wheeler and a pickup truck. The collision happened just before noon Monday McAshan Road and Old Tuscaloosa Highway in McCalla, said Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to UAB West where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
