1 killed in Birmingham apartment fire
Fire swept through a Birmingham apartment building, leaving one person dead.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched at 8 p.m. Wednesday to the blaze at First Street North and Morris Avenue. They had received reports of people possibly trapped.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the one-story building, said BFRS Capt. Orlando Reynolds.
They were able to quickly contain the blaze, he said. A search of the apartments, however, led to firefighters finding one man dead inside a unit.
No other injuries were reported.
Reynolds said multiple other units were damaged. It wasn’t immediately clear how many residents were displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
