1 killed, 1 injured in Tuscaloosa traffic crash

A 53-year-old man was killed, and a woman injured, in a two-vehicle Tuscaloosa crash.

Police identified the fatality victim as Shannon Scott Elmore. He lived in Brookwood.

The wreck happened at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 55th Avenue East and Old Birmingham Highway.

Tuscaloosa police spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor said Elmore was driving a Ford F-150 that crossed the center lane of traffic on Old Birmingham Highway and struck an oncoming Jeep Wrangler.

Paramedics with Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue and Northstar EMS rendered aid to Elmore, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old woman from Brookwood, was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition early Wednesday morning.

TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the accident site and is conducting the follow-up investigation.
