1 killed, 1 injured in Tuscaloosa crash after police chase
A woman was killed early Friday in a Tuscaloosa crash following a police pursuit that began with a traffic stop.
A Tuscaloosa police officer at 4 a.m. tried to stop a vehicle that had run a stop sign at 13th Street East and 15th Avenue, said TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor.
The driver refused to stop and continued driving along Kicker Road and then north toward Jack Warner Parkway, Taylor said. The officer pursued the suspect vehicle, but the driver continued driving on to 25th Avenue East.
At 4:03 a.m., the suspect vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree near the curve by Tamaha Trace.
The male driver was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center where he was being treated for injuries. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded and are investigating the crash.
The portion of 25th Avenue East just south of the bridge by Colonial Drive and Jack Warner Parkway will remained closed during these initial stages of the investigation.
Taylor said ALEA will release further information as it becomes available
