A Trafford woman was killed in a collision with a box truck in Blount County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Rebekah M. Fitts. She was 58.

The crash happened at 4:22 p.m. Thursday on Alabama 79 near Melvin Lane. That location is about six miles south of Locust Fork.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said Fitts was driving a Ford Escape that was hit by a W62 box truck driven by Varcedrick J. Daniel, 34, of Birmingham.

After the initial impact, Fitts’ vehicle left the road and struck a ditch.

She was taken by helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where she later died.

Daniel was taken to St. Vincent’s East, also in Birmingham. The extent of his injuries was not released.

The investigation is ongoing.
