An overnight shooting in Midfield left one man dead and another detained for questioning.

Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1200 block of Eighth Avenue in Midfield on reports of someone shot during an argument.

Deputies got to the location and found a 38-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, said Lt. Joni Money.

The 38-year-old man was taken to UAB Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses gave deputies a description of the suspect and his vehicle. He was located moments later and taken into custody.

The 57-year-old suspect is undergoing questioning by detectives. Charges have not yet been determined, Money said.

The victim is Midfield’s fifth homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 125 homicides, including the five in Midfield.
