1 dead, police officer flown to hospital after north Alabama crash

Tuscumbia police say one person is dead and an officer is injured following a vehicle crash involving a Tuscumbia police cruiser.

Police Chief Tony Logan said the incident happened about 8:16 p.m. on Hawk Pride Mountain Road.

Officers arriving on the scene found a pedestrian had been struck and that the vehicle was a marked Tuscumbia police vehicle.

Colbert County Deputy Coroner Matt Moore pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The officer driving the vehicle was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital.

Police have not yet released the identity of the officer or the victim.

Because the incident involved a Tuscumbia police officer, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) will be investigating.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of all of those involved,” Logan said.
