1 dead in early morning Decatur fire
One person is dead following a fire this morning in Decatur.
Decatur Deputy Fire Marshal Brandon Sivley said crews responded to a residential fire at about 6:26 a.m. in the 1300 block of Ninth Avenue Southeast.
Crews made immediate entry into the home as smoke was visible coming from the structure.
After a search, one person was found and removed.
The victim was taken to Decatur Morgan Main Hospital and later died. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Decatur Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal Division, along with the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office.
“Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family and friends,” Sivley said.
