1 dead following mobile home fire in northeastern Jefferson County
A fire in northeast Jefferson County left one person dead.
Palmerdale and Glennwood fire departments, as well as the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched just before 8 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 6700 block of Womack Road.
Sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said callers to 911 reported hearing several explosions. It was also reported that an elderly man may have been inside the home.
First responders arrived to find a mobile home engulfed in flames.
Once the blaze was extinguished, a body was found inside. The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office are working with the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
Money said no foul play is suspected at this point.
