An argument at a small party early Saturday in west Birmingham left one man dead.

West Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:50 a.m. to a report of a person shot at a home in the 600 block of Carline Avenue in the Pratt community.

Once officers got on the scene and entered the home, the found an adult male unresponsive inside. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said investigators believe an argument between the victim and the unknown suspect led to the deadly shooting. Most of the partygoers left the scene before police arrived.

The suspect has not been identified.

Fitzgerald said obviously at least some of those in attendance should be able to identify the shooter and are asked to call Crime Stoppers, which can be done anonymously.

“This is an easy opportunity to receive a cash reward,’’ he said.

The victim is Birmingham’s 30th homicide this year. Of those, two have been ruled justifiable and aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 38 slayings, including the 30 in Birmingham.

Tipsters are asked to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
