1 dead, 9 injured during New Year’s Eve shooing in downtown Mobile

One person is dead, and nine others are wounded during a shooting that occurred late Saturday in downtown Mobile.

The shooting occurred around 11:14 p.m. in the 200 block of Dauphin Street, which is a few blocks from where thousands of people gathered to celebrate during the 15th annual MoonPie Over Mobile event.

Mobile Police Cpl. Ryan Blakely said that nine victims were transported to local hospitals where they were treated for injuries. He said it was unknown on what their conditions were early Sunday.

Blakely did not have details about the man who was shot and killed, nor did he have additional information about a motive. He said that no arrests have been made, and that police are investigating.

A video circulating on Twitter shows a chaotic scene along a sidewalk in downtown Mobile, where several people appear to be suffering from gunshot wounds as they lay on the sidewalk.

Despite the shooting, the MoonPie affixed to the RSA Trustmark Building descended during a countdown to the New Year.
