A conflict between two men at a Birmingham apartment resulted in a gunfight that has left one dead, another injured and a woman who was an innocent bystander in the hospital this afternoon.

The violence erupted around 11 a.m. at Carson Crest Apartment on Carson Road in east Birmingham, said police spokesman Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Police said a woman who was at a nearby church was taken by emergency responders to a hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

Fitzgerald said two adult males were taken to St. Vincent’s East by private vehicle. One of the men was pronounced dead and the other has life-threatening injuries.

“When officers began investigating, they found out the two males had been involved in an argument and one of the males pulled out a gun and the two got into a shootout with one another,” Fitzgerald said. “We think the female was just caught in the crossfire.”
