1 dead, 2 injured in Sunday north Alabama crash

A Florence man died in a crash at midnight Sunday in Lawrence County.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said the two-car crash happened on Alabama 157 near Lawrence County 150, about eight miles north of Moulton.

Kendall Lee Dean, 48, was killed when the 2014 Ford Focus he was driving collided head-on with a 2004 GMC Yukon, driven by Hugo Armando-Roman Ortiz, 33, of Decatur.

Dean, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ortiz was injured and transported by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. The passenger of the GMC, Fernando Jose-Portillo Mariano, 22, of Decatur, was also injured and transported to North Alabama Medical Hospital for treatment.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
