1 dead, 1 arrested after north Alabama argument

An argument between two neighbors in north Alabama left one man dead and another in jail.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, the Scottsboro Police Department was called to a residence on the 300 block of Maple Avenue in reference to a shooting.

Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to Detective Sgt. Ryan Putman, the police department’s public information officer, the man was transported to Highlands Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Police have not yet released the man’s name.

An investigation by officials found that an argument had taken place between to the two men, leading to the shooting of the victim.

Gerry Paul Kelly, 62, been charged with murder, according to Putman.

Kelly will be transferred to the Jackson County Jail.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
