$1.1 billion McCalla Smucker’s plant hosting hiring fair today: Jobs start at $23 an hour

The J.M. Smucker Co. is holding a hiring fair today for its new $1.1 billion McCalla facility.

The job fair, supported by the Birmingham Business Alliance, is happening Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. through 7:30 p.m. at the Bessemer Civic Center, 1130 9th Ave. S.W., in Bessemer.

The company is looking for applicants for jobs in production, quality assurance, maintenance, logistics, engineering, electrical and management. Jobs start at $23 an hour, with health benefits from day one.

The Smucker’s plant, first announced in 2021, will make “Uncrustables,” the brand’s frozen sandwich treat. It will be part of the Jefferson Metropolitan Park at McCalla, a 739-acre industrial park along U.S. 11 about a mile from Interstate 20/59 and two miles from I-459.

The plant is expected to bring 750 jobs. Smucker’s is best known for its jellies and jams, and Uncrustables come in several flavors including peanut butter and grape jelly.
