It’s time again for Mentone’s annual May Rhododendron Festival!  MAPA members are pleased to present this event, our contribution to the celebration of our mountain’s extravaganza of color, and offer you the opportunity to participate.

This year’s Rhododendron Festival will be held May 17th and 18th at Brow Park, with the traditional kick-off bonfire Friday, the 16th, at the Mentone Inn.

Brow Park events are scheduled for Saturday, the 17th, and Sunday, the 18th, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The kick-off bonfire will start around 6:30 Friday evening and will include food, drinks and music.  The Festival parade, featuring classic cars, will wind its way through town Saturday afternoon at 2:00.  We are adding a second bonfire party this year on Saturday night (again at 6:30).  The drawing for a handmade quilt will be held Sunday, 4:30 p.m., at the Brow Park pavilion.

If you are interested in participating as a vendor in this year’s festival, you need to complete a registration form and return it to us as soon as possible, along with your check or money order to cover required fees (as outlined on the form).  If this is your first time attending the Rhododendron Festival, please include a color photo of the wares you plan to offer for sale.  As always, we are particularly interested in handmade products.

Some festival guidelines vendors must comply with include:

•  Food vendors MUST obtain a food permit from the DeKalb County Health Department in Fort Payne.  Telephone: 256-845-1931.  Permits are only issued PRIOR TO the festival opening date.

•  Motor homes must be completely self-contained, requiring no additional electricity.

•  All vendors are expected to remain set up during festival hours both days.

•  No firearms or alcoholic beverages are permitted.

This is a wonderful, enjoyable family event. A variety of entertainment will be offered throughout the festival, including singers, dancers, bands and children performers.  Attractions for all ages will be provided throughout Mentone.  Come join the fun!
